Why Your Air Conditioning Company Choice Actually Matters More Than You Think

The truth is that most people just don't really think about who their air conditioning company is until they need one. You survive the entire summer without issue, then on that 95 degree day your condenser dies and well, you know what happens. You're calling around at 9pm, trying to find an air conditioning company while you body is soaked in sweat.

A good air conditioning company should not just be the one you call when your air conditioning takes a dump.

They should be the one you call for biannual system check ups, the ones who catch that small issue before it gets the big one, the ones who try to explain what exactly is wrong with your air conditioning instead of just handing you an insanely expensive bill. I've seen people save thousands just by having a reliable air conditioning company stop by twice a year. Not glamorous but it certainly works.

Heating Services Aren't Just A Winter Afterthought

Here's the thing people mess up constantly, they treat heating services like an emergency-only situation. Furnace goes out in January, and you're cold for two days while waiting for a part. That's terrible, but it doesn't have to be.

Heating services are something you should be thinking about in the fall, and scheduling early and often.

A good furnace installation or a service call in the fall is worth more than a week of running your budget and your furnace to find out how expensive breaking down in the middle of winter can really be. I always tell my customers, call in October! Don't wait until the first freeze.

What To Expect From An Heating And Air Company

There is a lot of noise out there, every company seems to say that they are the greatest, fastest, cheapest or whatever. Sift through it. You want licensed technicians, true reviews(not the five fake ones a company put up themselves), and transparent pricing before any work is done.

A good air conditioning company will explain your options rather than pressure you into buying a new system you can't afford or don't need.

If a technician talks about changing out the entire system before they even open the unit up then you need to walk away immediately. Remember to ask questions. As many as you can think of. A good contractor will welcome your questions and want you to be well informed.

Furnace Installation Is Not A DIY Project

I get it: YouTube makes it look so simple. But that furnace installation needs to be handled by a skilled professional because there's gas lines, wiring, venting-if it's not properly and safely installed, you could be looking at dangerous, not merely a pain. Carbon monoxide is not something you want to play around with!

This is definitely a case of "penny wise, pound foolish," hiring someone who cuts corners here is going to be paying far more later than they planned to.

Same principle with the AC, in my book. Those units are not as simple on the inside as they appear on the outside, and a cheap install will cut a few years off the unit's lifespan.

AC Installation: Timing Matters More Than People Realize

Most folks tend to wait until their AC breaks down altogether before even bothering to call. That's just plain wrong in my book. If your air conditioning unit is more than 12-15 years old or you find yourself asking for repairs every other month, you should consider looking at AC installation options now, before you bake in July.

Contractors are overwhelmed during the height of summer, and it can be difficult to find a time that's affordable and convenient.

Spring is hands down the best time to do an AC installation. No one is getting their air conditioning fixed in March, so you won't be competing with fifty other frantic homeowners.

An integrated heating and cooling system. Is it effective?

A great benefit to not even realizing there is a possibility, is that many people don't realize that you are able to bundle your heating and air conditioning company relationships into one with the same company having more than one technician working on your systems. It is truly a huge benefit. Having one company that knows the whole system, both furnace and ac, means less surprises and less tech's getting lost and poking around a part they don't understand.

Further, many companies are now offer maintenance plans that hit both systems for one flat rate.

Worth asking about because it will more than make up for itself in a year or two in missed problems and priority scheduling.

The Real Cost Of Ignoring Maintenance

This one irks me. Time and time again consumers will pay whatever amount for just about everything under the sun, yet turn away from preventative maintenance. Then they sit in awe that a $150 tune-up was enough to prevent a $3,000 repair.

Filters get clogged, coils get grimey, parts wear out slow and silent until one day your unit refuses to run.

A simple seasonal inspection from a reliable air conditioning company or heating services guy will catch this in the beginning stages. It's not glamorous, I have to admit that. No one's throwing a blowout over a clean filter. But its the simple boring stuff that actually saves you money down the line.

Bottom Line: Don't Wait Till You're Desperate

In the end, choosing the right air conditioning company and keeping up with your heating services isn't difficult; it just requires a bit of planning. Maintain your air conditioning units before they fail. Don't hesitate to inquire before you make a commitment.

And don't hesitate to change companies if the one you currently use isn't providing clear communication or arriving as scheduled.

Your comfort and, frankly, your budget depends on it far more than most people think until it is too late.
